Meet Kimmi Norvell, A Dream Come True

Kimmi, as many of you know is a yoga instructor in Rockport, Texas. She knew at a young age exactly what she wanted to do. Actually, she realized what she wanted to do through a class that took her to the Appalachian Mountains for a 50 mile hiking trip. She was 19 at the time and already in college. Seeking a degree that was not industry or agriculture driven, she found what she was looking for out-of-state at Western Washington University in Bellingham.

Much to Kimmi’s surprise, the move to Washington was the beginning of a new way of life for her that would lead her to change her way of living. She drew prospective on what the important things in life were for her. As she learned about her city, she began to explore the vast, unlimited fresh and local foods available in her new surroundings. She slowly began to change her way of eating and was amazed by how plentiful Bellingham was in providing local foods grown in the area. Soon she would spend hours picking fruits, vegetables and other produce from local farmers and would eat throughout the week on her gatherings.

After five years of living in Washington, Kimmi began her job search in Austin, Texas. An opportunity arose in the Coastal Bend Area of Texas and Kimmi moved to Rockport where she worked for a local environmental consulting firm.

In November of 2008 Kimmi received her certification in yoga and began teaching full time in 2009. With classes at the Kinetic Movement Center on South Live Oak Street in Rockport, Kimmi owns and operates Rockport Yoga ( Her classes are 7:30 am Wednesday and Friday and Tuesday at 6:30 pm. You can contact Kimmi and find out more information about her yoga classes at

Now, to Kimmi’s Dream. After living in Washington, becoming a yoga teacher and changing her life-style, she saw what was available to the locals and began forming her dream of owning a health food store. Now that dream is coming true. Coastal Bend Health Foods has become a reality. It is located at 111 North Austin Street in Rockport and carries nutritional supplements, bulk food and beauty items, natural foods and as Kimmi puts it, “dietary needs aside, the body can digest everything edible in the store”. She says that there will be no refined sugar, no refined flour, no hydrogenated oil and no preservatives in the foods she gets from local vendors and beyond. Produce and other perishables will be limited to begin with but will grow as Coastal Bend Health Foods grows and as the seasons change to offer more local freshness.

Coastal Bend Health Foods is now open from 10 am to 6 pm Tuesday through Friday and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturdays.
Kimmi wants all of you to be sure and come by and let her know what you want her to carry as she says, “We’re growing organically one request at a time.” She is excited about having a Reference Library for all to use and has been working with experts in the health and fitness industry to be able to provide Rockport citizens with everything they need to lead them to a better way of living.

Kimmie, I had a great time visiting your shop this past weekend. I walked in feeling a bit out of sorts. A bit of time with your massage therapist turned my whole day around. The next day as well, actually. I also found some great products at your shop that I had been looking for in Corpus, but had not been able to find. What a treat! You have things I thought I could only get online. I have also been carrying my stevia around in my purse. So much better than sugar or the chemical sweeteners I might have chosen in the past. Thanks again. You are a jewel!
