The Day an Angel Came to Our Rescue!

"This is from my buddy who was in the Navy with me during WW2. He and his wife came from St Louis, MO to visit JoAnn and me in Rockport. This is what happened to them on the way to see us. As soon as they arrived, they told us this story. I remember it well." - Bob Martin
"Several years ago Marie and I were driving to Rockport Texas to visit Bob and JoAnn Martin. We were on U.S. Highway 59 out of Houston Texas when it began to rain. The rain was so heavy we could hardly see the front end of the car. The traffic was fairly heavy and we were becoming alarmed that we might be hit by another car going too fast with zero visibility. Marie said, “We must get off the road now’! At that instant, in blinding rain, a “Rest Stop” sign appeared as clear as if there were no rain at all!

While waiting there for the rain to diminish several people were talking about an accident that just happened about a mile farther up the road. A huge tractor trailer had lost control, overturned, fell on top of a car and killed two people. It could have been us! With the help of a State Trooper we were able to get across to the opposite lanes and go back about a mile to a local convenience store.

We had no idea how to find an alternate road to Rockport so the store clerk tried to draw a map to one. I took one look and said, “I will never find it from this map”. Now this is where it gets strange. Suddenly a woman we had not even noticed before was standing right beside me and she said, “Don’t worry, I’m going to take you there, get in your car and follow me”. We did that and after several detours because of the rain, she pulled onto a vacant lot and stopped. I stopped next to her car. She said, “Just follow this road to the “T” and turn right. It will take you right to Rockport.

We thanked her and expressed our appreciation for all her help. She smiled and disappeared, and I mean disappeared! Because when I looked in my rear view mirror to watch her leave there was no one there! We looked at each other in disbelief and went on our way.

Was a guardian angel sent to protect us? We think so!
