NEWS UPDATE! (2/20/13) "Ok, I guess it is safe to let everyone know that MHHR has a new home. I can not express how excited we are and how tired I am. MHHR has a 193 acres to call home. There is a lot of work to do to make this a horse facility but with hard work and support this will be a dream come true." - Darla Cherry, Meadow Haven Horse Rescue, Nixon, Texas (with a few loving ties to Rockport) >> DONATE
-----
"So many times the stories that come from animal shelters and rescues are too hard to bear. This story, however, is one we are so happy to pass along to our readers!

Meadow Haven Horse Rescue in Nixon, Texas is a non-profit rescue that nurses many an injured and neglected horse (pony, burro, donkey and more) back to health, and finds loving "forever" homes for these wonderfully majestic animals.
Like many non-profits Meadow Haven and its primary caretaker, Darla Cherry, sometimes find it hard to do everything they wish they could on the often meager donations that trickle in. More often than not the rescue is full to capacity with needy equines....making space (and other resources) precious commodities.

Darla and Meadow Haven are so pleased to announce that a very generous landowner has offered to have Meadow Haven's rescued horses graze 197 acres of Texas grasslands!
"He called yesterday and told me to rotate them around on his 197 acres. There are miracles and I have been a part of one. Oh, and by the way I'm able to put 40 head over there!" exclaimed Darla on Facebook.

We are so happy for Meadow Haven! Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year to this deserving herd!

God bless that generous person who is able to let those horses run and eat on that acerage. Darla and her hardworking family deserve all good things as their hearts are bigger than Texas. If you can help, please do so as many times the hay, vet bills, medication, and on and on is paid for out of their pockets. Like so many of us, their pockets are pretty shallow at times. Click on Medowhaven's site to see some of the wonderful work Darla and her family does.
