"4 Questions with CJ Wax, Mayor of Rockport"

1. Where and how did you grow up?

"I was brought up in a military family, born in Virginia and lived in many places. I went to high school in Baton Rouge, LA which is where I met my wife Susan. I went to college at the Air Force Academy and began a military career that lasted 33 years. We lived all over the world, rasied two children who are both married and raising our six grand children. Four of the grandchildren live in Houston and the other two live in Ithaca, New York."

2. How did your upbringing affect what you do for a living now?

"The experiences of my life taught me to accept others, respect differing opinions, and learn to understand alternative approaches to the same problems and issues. In addition, I learned early on that the people out on the front lines actually doing the work often have very good ideas as to how the work should be done. As the Mayor of Rockport, I find this knowledge is useful to me everyday."

of the arts in Rockport, and are often spotted at

local art openings and film screenings!
3. What brought you to Rockport-Fulton (and how does it differ from where you have lived previously)?

"My aunt and uncle lived in Rockport, Susan and I had never been here. We were living in DC at the time and were visiting San Antonio looking for a place for us to ultimately retire. We owned a home in San Antonio and were searching for “that place” all over central Texas. My uncle called and suggested we come visit them for the weekend. We arrived here on a Friday night and by Sunday afternoon we bought a condo and set our path toward our future life in Rockport. We had found “that place.”

4. What are your passions?

"I’m passionate about my family, our future, opportunity, and challenge. I welcome new responsibilities and see them as another challenge that can improve my life and the lives of those around me. As wonderful as Rockport is, there are always opportunities for improvement. I enjoy my duties as Mayor and like to think I’m making a difference."
