Local Profile | Jane Carroll: World Traveler, Local Government Activist, Adventure Seeker!

I was born in Miami, Florida. After discharge from the Army at the end of WWII my Dad started a career in construction which carried our family from Florida to the Panama Canal, all over Texas and Tennessee.

I started school in Corpus Christi, relocated to Gainesville, Texas. We moved to Tullahoma, Tennessee in the middle of High School. I became an airline stewardess two years after graduation and flew for American Airlines for the next five years.

As a young girl I resented moving frequently but soon realized that I was actually gaining a wealth of experience in developing relationships in different places.

I was based out of Dallas Love Field while flying for AAL and traveled all over the US and Mexico. Not only did I get to meet thousands of people on each flight. I visited all parts of this wonderful county. I guess this instilled in me a strong desire to always be looking for the next great adventure.

My work experience has always been in sales and marketing primarily in the private security sector, meeting people and overcoming obstacles.

During that time I was actively involved with different organizations, Chamber of Commerce, Building Owners and Manager Association, Dallas and Tarrant County Apartment Association, Texas Association of Business, Citizens Crime Prevention Association, Decatur Police Academy, Charter Member DPA Alumina, to name a few.

These organizations stirred my interest in local government, so I involved myself in Planning and Zoning and served seven years on the Board of Directors of the Wise County Tax Appraisal District. I quickly discovered that you don’t know what is going on in your community until you attend and participate in local government.

After the grandkids started school and outgrew us, we decided it was time to seek the next great adventure. Rockport-Fulton has always been our favorite vacation spot. I retired and my husband, Danny, moved his barber shop from Decatur to paradise.

Every day here is another adventure, the people, un-ending activities, weather, and fishing.

I am asked what my passions are. It has to be PEOPLE.
