7 Recommendation Needed | A Good Eco-Friendly-er Coffee Brewer!

Hello Friends -- I am a coffee nut, especially flavored coffees (which my husband hates!). I have figured that in the past few years I have disposed of approximately 1200 Keurig one-serving plastic cups!!...and I am feeing sooo guilty!! I generally try and use things again and again, but since this coffee maker was a gift, I guess it got away from me. Can anyone recommend a really good coffee maker, for a rich, bold cup o' joe? Thanks! Ellen.

At my house we use the plastic, reusable cones. They make the BEST CUP OF COFFEE!! They aren't really made for entertaining, but if you and your husband like different kinds, this could be the answer. Even my friends have commented on how good it is. You can buy them right at HEB, and the filter type to use is #2. ...and the only waste you make is paper and coffee grounds! HEB also carries reusable K-cup baskets. Put whatever coffee grounds you want in the basket and use it the same way you would the premade cups. They work very well for us!

I, too, like the flavored coffees and have a husband who prefers good 'ol Joe, and we are big coffee drinkers! I found that by adding a few drops of extract in my cup we can both enjoy the same pot of coffee (and a pot is so much cheaper than individual cups). The extracts are relatively inexpensive and you can get them in everything from vanilla to chocolate.

I use a cruisant coffee maker that keeps coffee hot inside and you can get out one cup at a time .They run about $120, and it makes 12 cups at a time,. I use the brown paper coffee filters and folgers coffee and empty the grounds and filter into my compost pile. Worms love coffee grounds and it mixes well with the dirt.

Wow! Thanks everyone! I will definitely use some of your ideas...the flavorings might be a good way to go for us. It is a pain to make two pots of coffee....and you almost have to have 2 coffee makers so the unflavored doesn't taste like the flavored! Thanks again! Ellen.

Check out their cups.....97% bio-degradable. Order them from Costco for about $0.32 per cup. Their Fog Chaser and French Roast are outstanding if you like it strong. I haven't tried their other blends, etc.

You can reuse your K-cups with a blend/flavor of your own (mine is Folders dark with half a salt-spoon of espresso) and cover with foil.--I make up about 30 at a time. Use the reusable plastic ones for your husband. Coffee grounds are for the garden.
