The HOME Program provides funds to assist low income homeowners living in substandard structures to bring their homes into compliance with local building codes OR to replace homes with a new house, when repair costs are greater than the allowable limits for repairs. Assistance requires no repayment as long as the homeowner continues to own and occupy their home for up to 15 years. According to City Manager Kevin Carruth, the City has received $562,000 in funding through this program with the City providing an additional $17,000 in funds and in-kind services.
Mayor C.J. Wax said, “The HOME Program raises the quality of life for the recipients, lowers the homeowner’s utility and maintenance costs, and improves the surrounding neighborhood. We look forward to extending this program with additional grants from TDHCA and urge interested residents to apply when we receive additional funding."
