Rest in Peace | Bill Hildebrand

Photos/Text by Pamela Fulcher
We will miss having Bill Hildebrand walk with us as he died suddenly yesterday, May 4, 2014. He was a generous, valuable and very active member of our community. Bill loved gardening and creating pottery and gourmet cooking, excelling at all three. He was a loved member of Rockport Center for the Arts teaching pottery classes, organizing the artist check-in and dinner at the Rockport Art Festival, hanging the member artist gallery each month and he was there to pass out a little bag of goodies to children at the annual Halloween contest.

Bill served on the board and was a member since inception of the Port Aransas Art Center; he organized the pottery program and helped organize all events. Everyone looked forward to the appetizers he served at the First Friday receptions. He was co-founder of Bountiful Bowl benefiting the Aransas County Council on Aging in Rockport. There is much more that Bill Hildebrand had a hand in, we will never know all he contributed and he did it all with a joyful heart and big smile.

It is difficult to say Bill without including Sam, his partner of 37 years. We are lucky they landed in Rockport many years ago when they got out of the service. We will all miss Bill, those of us in Rockport, Port Aransas, Corpus Christi and his many friends throughout the world.
We will post info about services as it becomes available.

  1. Memories and stories of Bill and his fabulous desserts, the gathering of friends at Sam's & Bill's will comfort us as we ache from the loss of Bill's presence.

Bill would tell our class that he had been in love with pottery and clay arts for more than 30 years. I know he's sitting in heaven, in front of a big chunk of clay, showing all the old masters how it's done right.
