Mitch with his Lovely Wife Nikki
1. Where (and how) did you grow up?

I grew up in Dayton, Ohio, where my father was a Civil Service employee at Wright Patterson AFB. I grew up as an average middle class kid who happened to enjoy fast cars and chasing women more than academia!

2. How did your upbringing affect what you do for a living now?

I learned early in life that if I wanted something I was going to have to earn it – my strict German father was not going to just give it to me. Basically I have been earning an income since age 13, and fortunately I was taught and mentored by a few great men who possessed ethics, integrity and instilled these traits in me as well as a strong work ethic. I was very impressionable and feel quite strongly that these qualities have “stuck” with me to this day.

3. What brought you to RockportFulton (and how does it differ from where you have lived previously)?

The LASIK Eye Center-MedSpa that I was directing was a casualty of the economic downturn in the 2008-2010 era. A local practitioner here in Rockport recruited me initially to assist with his patient load. In short order I grew quite fond of this community and after the practitioner suddenly left the area Nikki and I decided to make it a permanent move from San Antonio. Having spent a many years practicing in West Texas (flat farm land and oil country) as well as San Antonio (bordering the wonderful hill country), coastal living has been a wonderful experience thus far. We so much enjoy the water, the birds, the coastal environment and with certainty the people here in Rockport-Fulton. This community is very accepting of “newbies”, and having lived in a number of communities over the years, this characteristic helps make for a very special place. In particular the cultural experiences, which are so varied, have added an extra layer of enjoyment to our lives. Most of all we have been fortunate to integrate ourselves into the tremendous Rockport Center for the Arts.

4. What are your passions?

Outside of the professional realm (which I am just a bit passionate about!) I very much enjoy fishing, working with my hands, i.e. tinkering with wood working, and tapping into my here-to-fore un-challenged, artistic side, e.g. pottery.

Thank you so much, Mitch and Nikki for sharing a little bit about yourselves with the Network! So glad to have you both with us in Rockport-Fulton!

I have to say that my family is very thankful to have Mitch and Nikki as friends and Mitch is thought highly of by our family as we credit him for saving our grand daughter's life when he diagnosed her cancerous retina blastoma at the age of 14 months. She is now almost 5 years and after he set her up with a specialist at MD Anderson in Houston where she went through chemo...she is now in remission for almost 2 years. Thanks Mitch...the Blaylock Family.

If you have an eye problem go to an eye man! That would be Dr. Wess. When my wife had an eye problem that was considered a minor eye irritant by a family doctor, I was concerned and took her to Dr. Wess. He recognized a bigger problem and recommended an eye specialist in in Corpus who performed minor eye surgery to correct the problem. Many thanks.
