Local Profile | "4 Questions with Darlene Taylor"

1. Where (and how) did you grow up? I grew up in Kankakee, Illinois as an only child of wonderful, hard working, supportive parents. I was always encouraged not to follow the crowd, but my own heart.

2. How did your upbringing affect what you do for a living now? I was always encouraged to explore and find creative simple things to play with. Making things out of mud in the back yard became my favorite pass time along with drawing pictures on scrap pieces of paper. I took this love into a job and become an art teacher for 32 years, teaching clay and painting.

3. What brought you to Rockport-Fulton (and how does it differ from where you have lived previously)? After retiring from teaching my husband and I moved to Door County Wisconsin where I had a studio and continued my art. As we got older the winters became too much and we started to travel. A friend told us about Rockport so we checked it out and fell in love with the town, the water and the breezes. We set up home here and my husband build me another studio. Plants, water and wind are all an important part of my art, and Rockport has all that.

4. What are your passions? I love nature and the outdoors. These two things have always been the main focus and inspiration in my artwork.
