5 Recommendation Needed | Mac Computer Repair

Met a new friend, new to Rockport. Her grandchildren & daughters are all out of USA and she uses SKYPE to visit. Her laptop is a Mac and SKYPE has been out some weeks. Does anyone know a Mac repair service in our area? She anticipates having to go to an Apple Store in Houston or San Antonio. Thanks, Gayle

Hi Gayle -- Before your friend takes her computer to someone who will charge her, the first thing I would try would be to uninstall the program and then reinstall it. {{IF}} she's not having issues with the rest of her programs and system, then that specific program could have had components deleted by accident, making it not work. This is where the Apple Store/Care would start.

To completely uninstall, and then reinstall Skype for Mac:

1. Quit Skype by selecting Skype > Quit Skype.
2. Open your Applications folder and drag your copy of Skype to the trash.
3. Then open ~/Library/Application Support * and drag the Skype folder to the trash. The ~ sign represents your home folder.

THEN REinstall from this page:

Follow the Directions (See Green Buttons that says "Download for Mac")

Good luck! ~ Alicia

Alicia offers good advice and it is definitely worth a try. However, if the person with the problem is uncomfortable taking those steps and has AppleCare (I'm an Apple fan and former employee, and I always add Apple Care to my purchases), she might be able to get free help via a phone call to the Apple Care phone number. They recently talked me through a complicated problem. But without Apple Care, you can still get free help via a trip to one of their stores, which I realize involves a trip and some inconvenience. I do suggest calling or getting online to make an appointment at the store before going, though. Does Best Buy in Corpus sell Apple devices and offer support? If yes, they might help, too. Good luck.

Good idea Susan. I've used them over the phone too. If you have patience, it's a good option. :)
