"Capital Murder - Two Suspects in Custody - Officers from the Aransas Pass Police Department were dispatched to the Cedar Lodge Motel on 02/22/2015 at approximately3:30 am for a welfare concern. The mother of the victim, Elvin Leo Young Jr. AGE 54, called police and advised that she had received phone calls from her son's phone and that a unknown male on the other end informed her that her son had passed out in his room. She asked where her son was, but the male subject just hung up before telling her the location. Officers were able to locate the victim at the Cedar Lodge Hotel located at 702 N. Commercial in Aransas Pass.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim unresponsive and lying on the floor near the foot of his bed. The victim appeared to have been severely beaten. Investigators were called in to take over the investigation. The victim was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Diane Dupnik from Aransas County. An autopsy is pending.
The two suspects had befriended the victim earlier in the day but had separated from the victim after the three got into an argument. The suspects later returned to the victims apartment, assaulted him, and robbed him before leaving him for dead. The suspects were planning to flee the State when law enforcement caught up with them.
Suspects Russel Eric Lofland W/M DOB: 08/22/1972 and Angel Marie Rich W/F DOB: 09/27/1976 were arrested and charged with capital murder. Lofland was also charged with failure to ID, fugitive from justice.
*** The case remains under investigation. No further details can be released at this time."
