Roving Reporter | Skip the Plastic: "February Bag Hero, Maclovio Perez"

The Bag Hero Program is a campaign to educate and encourage the use of reusable shopping bags in the Coastal Bend. We recognize community members who set a positive example by bringing reusable bags when shopping for groceries or other goods.

For the month of February, our Bag Hero is Maclovio Perez, Broadcast Meteorologist for KRIS News. In his spare time, Maclovio enjoys supporting the community through organizations like the Coastal Bend Bays Foundation.

Of the bag he is holding in the photo, he says, “It's amazing that this plastic bag....so light...so cheap....so innocuous....has become such a problem to our environment. I applaud the work done by many to bring the problem to light. I am sure the sea turtles also applaud their efforts!

Most of the time, I skip the plastic and carry my goods out by hand... or in a shopping cart.

Then other times, my reusable bag makes so much sense.”
