0 Rest in Peace | Rockport Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief, Michael Faglie

From Rockport Volunteer Fire Department:

"It is with deep regret that we announce that Rockport Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief, Michael Faglie, passed away March 22nd, 2015 after an extensive battle with cancer. Chief Faglie proudly served the RVFD for more than 10 years. He served through the ranks including Chief, Assistant Chief, and Captain. Prior to joining the RVFD Mike served the Ata-Bexar Fire Department in San Antonio Texas for 13 years. Chief Faglie was a valuable member of the department, in 2014 he was the Top Responder, attending at least 271 emergency responses for our community! When joining RVFD Mike recognized that there was a great opportunity for growth and advancement; for himself and the department. Mike helped the department purchase numerous apparatus; his favorite truck was Engine 1, which brought the addition of CAFS (compressed air foam system) to the fleet. Chief Faglie was instrumental in bringing the first set of extrication equipment to the RVFD and getting members trained in extrication techniques. He assisted in obtaining multiple grants that have brought new, enhanced, and upgraded, protective gear and equipment. Mike was an instructor within the department and at the Rockport Fire Academy, sharing his knowledge and experience with countless firefighters locally and throughout the state. Well known to his fire fighters for his colorful expressions and quick wit, Chief Faglie was always willing to tackle any task head on with dogged determination. No task was too little or too much, Mike was just as happy to be at the grill making the firefighters lunch as he was behind the wheel getting the truck to the scene. He always had a word of advice and a push in the right direction when one of his fire fighters needed it. Mike will be deeply missed by his fire family. The members of the RVFD are now concentrating on supporting his wife Kim, their children, and grandson; Kim and daughter Becca are also active members of the department.

Services of remembrances for Assistant Chief Fagile are pending and will be announced as soon as possible."
