Roving Reporter | Rockport Center for the Arts Welcomes New Executive Director, Luis Purón

via Rockport Center from the Arts: It is with great pleasure that the Board of Directors of the Rockport Center for the Arts welcomes Luis Purón to its family of artists, members, patrons and staff.

Luis is originally from Mexico. He grew up along the Texas border and is the eldest of four siblings. His sister Maria Laura was a ballerina in Mexico City; his brother Jorge is a contemporary artist in San Antonio; and his youngest brother Fernando is presently mayor of the town where they were born. His mother Maria, originally from Woodstock, Virginia, has lived in different parts of Latin America; his father is deceased. Luis' formative years in business were spent at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. In his spare time he plays tennis, practices yoga, enjoys travel, jazz, cooking, entertaining, and reading in his native Spanish.

From 2002 to 2014 Luis held the position of Vice-President of Operations at Vital Probes, Inc., a biotechnology company in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Prior to working in research and development as a business manager he spent seventeen years as a leader in rehabilitation in various sectors- government, private practice, not for profit and consultancy. He is the recipient of numerous recognitions in the State of Texas for his achievements. His service innovations garnered him the respect of the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services where he became a statewide trainer of trainers for best practices in the field. Additionally, he was a national trainer for the Management Simulation Course developed at Cornell University. While living in Pennsylvania he became affiliated with Artists for Art Gallery, a member driven visual arts organization; initially as a board member and later executing its strategic plan, handling event publicity, and undertaking annual giving campaigns and project grant-writing.

When asked about the executive role he has accepted, Luis stated: "To help the Board lead the Rockport Center for the Arts on the eve of its 50th anniversary and into the future is an opportunity that I cherish. This is the position I have been preparing for all my life."

Please join us in welcoming Luis during Saturday's reception at 4:30pm @ the Art Center, 902 Navigation Cir., Rockport, Texas 78382.
