On the evening of July 14, 2015 at 6:30pm Rockport City Hall brimmed with passionate citizens anxious to hear the discussion regarding the single-use plastic bag ban proposal. Several speakers got up to share information and opinions. Council asked that people who had spoken during previous meetings give others who has not spoken yet a chance to do so. Corpus Christi news station KiiiTV was in attendance shooting video and conducting on-camera interviews.

Karen Mella and Tiffany Hoover, representing the Rockport-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, presented their findings from their latest survey distributed through email to their members. They reported that 49 respondents answered that they would be interested in serving on a task force to address the litter problem in Aransas County.

An unofficial poll of the gallery was taken by Council. Attendants were asked to raise their hands to show who supported and then opposed the ban. The resulting count was 33 for the ban, 53 against the ban.

Mayor C.J. Wax concluded by saying "What I am not happy with is the division in our community and the vitriol from both sides. That troubles me."  "And with that in mind, I make a motion to indefinitely postpone the ordinance and take it off the table."

The motion was seconded by Councilman J.D. Villa and then was passed by unanimous vote.

In closing, Councilwoman Barbara Gurtner added, "I think all of you being here is the most delightful thing to happen in a long time. All of us have said that we have a problem no matter what side we are on. I agree. Now let's get together and do something about it."
