Roving Reporter | "Bag Hero of the Month: September" | Skip the Plastic

The Bag Hero Program is a campaign to educate and encourage the use of reusable shopping bags in the Coastal Bend. We recognize community members, and occasionally businesses, that set a positive example by making the shift to reusable shopping bags or finding better alternatives to single-use plastic bags.

Our September Bag Heroes at Shoreline Sandwich Co. have done that and more. Owners Linda Busk and her son, Kris, told us, “We wanted to open the first green restaurant in Corpus Christi.” They already had a successful sandwich shop downtown, so when the time came to expand to an uptown location in the 600 Building on Leopard Street, they decided to go all-in.

  • In addition to the delicious sandwiches, soups and salads, customers will find:
  • Paper bags and cardboard to-go containers instead of plastic bags and Styrofoam.
  • A recycling station for customers (employees also recycle containers accumulated during food preparation).
  • Repurposed lumber used throughout the restaurant’s contemporary decor. Even the tables were made from former bowling alley lanes.

We congratulate Shoreline Sandwich Co. on its success and its fresh approach to creating a sustainable option to the status quo. Patrons appreciate the healthy food and upbeat dining experience.
