Roving Reporter / Awards | "Melissa Bohannon Wins Baking Contest at Seafair" | Text and 4 Photos by Darlene Hatch

"Ever since Melissa and Steven Bohannon moved here from Florence, Texas, she has been bringing us over food. They are the parents of four grown children and going through Empty Nest Syndrome. So, I guess they have adopted us. But we had to ask her to stop when the desserts were more than we could resist, especially the red velvet cheesecake.

On top of that, she is an artist and they are topped with eatable shells, pelicans and sea gulls, hibiscus flowers, way too pretty to eat. I told her she needed to enter the baking contest at Seafair. She did and won First Place with her tropical cake made with pineapple and raspberry filling. Her husband took pictures of her and the cakes because he was so proud of her. The audience got to finish off the cakes and yes, I ate a great big piece of the red velvet cheesecake to help her celebrate." - Darlene Hatch
