Press Release, County of Aransas | "Rabid Bat Found in Aransas County"

On Tuesday, December 15, 2015, Aransas County Animal Control was called to a home in Aransas County by a resident reporting a live bat on her porch. The bat was captured by the Animal Control Officers and sent to the state lab in Austin per protocol. It tested positive for rabies and was disposed of in their facility. All residents and visitors are advised to refrain from any contact with live or dead bats. If a live bat is observed, please call the Animal Control Dispatcher at 361.790.0151 immediately with the location. Pet owners are reminded that all dogs and cats must be current on their rabies vaccinations and tagged accordingly. If in doubt, check with your veterinarian. If you have questions about possible exposure, please call Aransas County Animal Control at 361.790.0151.
