About the Red Hat Society
The Red Hat Society is international in scope and incorporates thousands of chapters. The "Rockport Rockhattes" was started about 15 years ago and is just one chapter of three here in the Rockport/Lamar area. The group keeps their membership (for the Rockport/Lamar Chapter) around 20 ladies. The Red Hat Society was started by Sue Ellen Cooper (of California) who was inspired by a poem by Jenny Joseph, When I Am An Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple. The group is for ladies over 50 who just want to get together occasionally, be a little crazy, have a lot of fun and, as a member, not be required to do anything!
