0 Behind The Scenes | “Everyone Has a Camera” | Article and Photo by Stephen Fisher

I’m Stephen Fisher, and I’m a fine art photographer living here in Rockport.

Everyone seems to be interested in photography these days. One of the main reasons is that you just don’t need a lot of expensive equipment to get started. Most of us have a great camera in our pocket or purse all of the time. That's right…your cell phone probably has an excellent camera built right into it!

While I don’t use my phone camera for much of my fine art work, I use it for a lot of personal tasks. It works perfectly to make make snapshots of friends, family, pets, birds at your window feeder, “selfies,” and the list goes on and on. You're limited only by your imagination. And by using your phone camera, sharing your photos with friends and family is easy.

Here are a few “tips & tricks” that you might try next time you use your phone camera:
  • KEEP IT SIMPLE - Maybe just shoot a single bird at your feeder instead of 10 of them. It helps the viewer to focus…pun intended…on your subject.
  • GET LOW - If you're photographing your dog, cat, or child, get low to make the shot. Get down to their eye level. It makes a huge difference.
  • LANDSCAPES - Get everything straight. It’s really important to make sure the horizon is level in your landscape photo.
  • BE CREATIVE - Have fun. Do something different. If you don’t like it…delete it!

If you try some of these basics, I promise you’ll find yourself with more “keepers” every time.

This image above, I made during one of my morning walks…and yes I made this with my phone camera. I don’t think National Geographic will be calling me to use it, but it isn’t too bad. The GOOD thing is that I didn’t need a bunch of expensive gear to make it. And it was FUN to do…

Stephen Fisher and his wife Sharon have lived in Rockport for almost 5 years. Stephen Is a full time Nature Photographer with gallery representations here in Rockport and in Corpus Christi. Their favorite question is “What took us so long to get here to Rockport?”
