News Release, City of Rockport | "Police End Standoff with Barricaded Shooter" (Sea Mist Shooter)

ROCKPORT, TX – At approximately 9:49 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, Rockport’s Public Safety Center received a complaint of a domestic disturbance at the Sea Mist Townhomes on FM 3036. While in route, several calls came in from residents that multiple shots had been heard inside and outside one of the buildings near the front of the complex. Upon arriving at the scene, Rockport Police learned that an allegedly intoxicated man had barricaded himself and an infant in one of the apartments. During the first hour of the standoff the shooter fired many rounds inside and outside the home. Residents in nearby homes were evacuated to the Fulton Volunteer Fire Department and FM 3036 was closed in the area. Speaking with family members, police were told that the man had access to multiple weapons, including a shotgun and AR-15, as well as large amounts of ammunition.

The shooter did not respond to multiple efforts by police to communicate. After 3 ½ hours and fearing for the safety of the infant, San Patricio Sheriff’s Office SWAT members entered the residence at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 25. Upon entering the home police found the suspect dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound 1-2 hours prior to SWAT entering. The infant was unharmed. The shooter’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Multiple agencies responded to provide assistance, including Allegiance EMS, Aransas County Sheriff’s Office, Fulton Volunteer Fire Department, Fulton Police Department, Rockport Volunteer Fire Department, San Patricio Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Department of Public Service.
