"Thirty-three people set sail from Fulton Harbor for a sold-out fundraiser Sunset Cruise on Thursday, June 16, 2016. Captain Tommy Moore generously donated the Skimmer for a 2.5 hour journey to Rookery Island and other nearby islands.

The group saw common loons (a rarity for the area and season), roseate spoonbills, oystercatchers, and tons of brown pelicans, herons, and gulls. Snacks and drinks were donated by HEB and Walmart, allowing over 95% of the donations for the cruise to benefit Wings Rescue Center.

The Center, which is still looking for a building for containment and rehabilitation of local birds, has rescued almost 100 birds in Rockport/Fulton since March. Passengers included many local birders, as well as Amanda Terry and Dr. Tim Tristan from Texas Sealife Center. Birds rescued in Rockport/Fulton are currently transported to Texas Sealife Center for rehabilitation and release." - Jeanette Larson
