ROCKPORT, TX – On Wednesday, July 13, Rockport Police Department (RPD) officers were dispatched to a major accident in the 900 block of Hwy 35 Bus. South in Rockport. The two vehicle accident involved a 2007 Chrysler operated by Patricia Davis, age 69, of Rockport and a 1996 Nissan pickup operated by Francisco Flores, 58, of San Antonio. Witnesses stated that the crash occurred when Davis crossed the center stripe of the highway in the southbound lane to avoid a vehicle in the same lane preparing to turn left at Hwy. 35 and James St. The Chrysler then collided with the Nissan in the inside north bound lane of Hwy 35.

Passengers in Davis car were Carol Tomek, 62, her sister, and Jada Tomek, 7, her great niece. There were no passengers in the other vehicle. Ambulances were called to the scene and Halo Flight also responded with two EMS helicopters. All occupants of the vehicles sustained multiple injuries and were transported to area hospitals.

Investigating officers were advised shortly after the scene was cleared that Davis, the driver of the Chrysler died as a result of her injuries. Both north and south bound lanes of Hwy. 35 were closed for approximately 90 minutes while the injured were given medical attention, the vehicles towed away and the debris removed.

The accident is still under investigation by RPD.
