Roving Reporter | "Art Fest Success!" | Text and 7 Photos by Jeanette Larson

Thanks to hundreds of volunteers and thousands of visitors, Art Festival, July 2-3, was a great success. Inside the Rockport Center for the Arts, volunteers checked in other volunteers and directed them to their assignments in the food and drink tent, the kid's area, entry gates, and more. Many volunteers are themselves artists who work the festival year after year. The only "pay" volunteers receive is a festival t-shirt; being artists some make them a little more fashionable!

Outside on the festival grounds a cool breeze tempered the heat as visitors went through the booths. Artists visited with shoppers, answering questions about their art techniques and craft.

The artists included local favorites, like Sue Bonnar, Maria Nesbit, Stephen Fisher, Martha Berkebile and John Martell, but also artists from across Texas and the United States. The variety of art was outstanding and featured many amazing pieces created with glass, paint, metals, and even fish. While parents shopped, kid enjoyed music and other activities in the kid's tent. Sunday's featured musician was Joe McDermott, while Lucas Miller performed on Saturday. Many visitors indicated that they will be back next year. - Jeanette Larson
