City of Rockport | "Rockport Police Boat Dispatched to Boat Fire" | Oct 19, 7:22am


ROCKPORT, TX – At 7:22 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, the Aransas County Public Safety Center received a call that the fishing vessel Mr JJ II was on fire in the Intercoastal Canal, between Palm Harbor and Cove Harbor. Rockport Police Commanders Jerry Lawing and Larry Sinclair responded in the Department’s patrol boat, which sports a 22” marine water gun that has a range of 150-200 feet and can pump 400 gallons per minute. Together with units from Texas Parks and Wildlife, Rockport Volunteer Fire Department, and Fulton Volunteer Fire Department, the fire was extinguished by 8:04 a.m.

The Captain of the shrimping vessel was brought to shore by a passing boater and treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. The U.S. Coast Guard and Texas General Land Office were notified of the event and will be investigating the incident.
