"The Friends of the Pool (FOP) met at the Community Pool for their membership meeting, drive, and potluck dinner on November 2. The non-profit organization has about 80 members and approximately 35 attended. While enjoying a varied and plentiful meal, members heard from President, Lynn Baskind about the group's accomplishments for 2016 and plans for 2017. Funds earned from the first annual Duck Race will be used to provide Whales Tales materials for Live Oak Elementary students. These materials help raise children’s awareness of safe behavior in, on, and around the water.Funds also support the Shark swim team and other programs for youth. Additionally, the FOP applied for and received a grant to purchase other items not in the pool's budget that make the pool a better place for swimmers and water walkers. Aquatics Manager Joe Riekers reported on the increase in pool use and revenues during the last two months. Baskind also announced the date for the 2nd annual Duck Race (March 18, 2017) and plans to promote the pool to Winter Texans."
