The World According to Bella | "Arctic Blast Survival - Happy New Year to You All!"

So far mine has been cold, cold, and really cold. It helps having a fur coat but still not enough plus my paws go numb if I’m out too long. Take for instance the day we woke to -31. When I heard that number I decided to sleep in. I was hardly allowed out that day except for emergency pees.

A lot of indoor time can be boring. I am tired of my toys and Mrs. S has not planned many play dates. Guess no one really wants to go out in the cold. There have been lots of power napping days. Needless to say I was happy when my copy of the magazine Modern Dog arrived in the mail. It gave me and Mrs. S something to do. She read a lot of the articles to me. I liked looking at the winner pictures from the 2016 dog contest and the gift page with lots of ideas for my wish list. When I started to hear talk about an AZ trip in March I covered my ears with my paws. Just thinking how scary that trip was with javelinas and coyotes makes me shake. Remember my story "A Night of Terror?"

Yesterday Mrs. S gave us the all clear. It was above zero and the sun was out. Mr. C and I took our usual walk to the mailbox. There was not much to find as everything is covered in snow and ice. It was a bit of a challenge trying to climb over the snow hills looking for the ball Mr. C threw.

Today an exciting rediscovery-I can walk on water! Mr. C and Mrs. S invited me along while they skied the lake. I thought I had died and gone to heaven with all the new places to explore. And finally being able to get over to the island across the lake and see what was there. We did make a check on our next door neighbor Paul’s ice house. He was not there but I was lucky to find a fish head nearby. Mr. C was prepared with a trade as he reminded me how sick I got last year from feasting on leftover seafood buffet. I had the best time running all around the lake and forgetting I was middle-aged. I tried my best to catch up with the two deer that ran by me but after a while I had to stop. I was tired. Mr. C says it’s a good day when I haven’t eaten something I shouldn’t and not gotten sick.

Mrs. S read me the story of Lucky, the pup, in the WWN who needs to be adopted. I wondered how he lost part of his tail too. Hope he finds a home soon.

Love, Bella
