Roving Reporter | "Skip the Plastic recognizes Judith Reader as ‘Bag Hero’"

The Skip the Plastic project of the Texas Coastal Bend Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation (TXCBC) recognizes community members and businesses that set a positive example by making the shift to reusable shopping bags or other alternatives to single-use plastic bags.

Our April Bag Hero is Judith Reader, an active member of the Audubon Outdoor Club (AOC). The club is composed of Corpus Christi residents, birdwatchers, activists, biologists, educators, volunteers and all-around good folks who are excited to dedicate a portion of their time and income to promoting the natural heritage of the Coastal Bend.

She says, “As a member of the AOC “Blucher Gang”, we work each Monday afternoon at Blucher Park, picking up litter and cleaning the little creek that runs through the park. Over the years we have picked up hundreds of plastic bags and debris that would have ended up in the Bay. We need to do everything we can to reduce the use of plastic bags and bottles in our community.”
