New Waste/Recycling Collection Goes in Effect July 10, 2017; Containers to be Delivered July 5-10, 2017

The City of Rockport’s new garbage and recycling curbside cart collection service will begin on July 10. The City’s provider, Republic Services, will deliver the carts to residences and small businesses July 7 – 10 with a brochure explaining the collection system and a calendar outlining pick up dates.

Household waste and yard debris should be placed in the waste container with a dark blue lid. Pick-up will take place once a week. Any bags, limbs, old trash cans or other items placed next to the container will not be picked up. Items that cannot fit in the container due to size or quantity may be disposed of for a fee at the Aransas County Transfer Station at 872 Airport Road.

Recyclables are to be placed in the container with the green lid and will be picked up every other week – on the same day as waste pickup. A complete guide of acceptable recyclables is included in the brochure.

Customers are asked to place their current 18-gallon recycling bins at the curb on their normal recycle day on July 3, 4, or 5, regardless of whether they contain recyclables. Republic will collect the bins for reuse elsewhere.

As before, containers must be set out by 7 am on the day of pickup. With the use of new containers, there are special requirements to ensure proper pickup. Containers should be placed with the wheels against the curb (or edge of pavement if there is no curb) with the front of the container facing the street. Additionally, containers should

be two (2) feet apart, two (2) feet from adjacent or overhead trees and bushes, three (3) feet from mailboxes, and five (5) feet from vehicles.

Customers, who either requested a larger container or didn’t respond to the survey, will receive the larger cart. Customers who are unhappy with the size of the container they ordered, may request a different one by contacting Utility Billing. They will be a $20 charge for the replacement, which will be delivered by Republic within a 7 – 10 days.

As noted in previous communications to residents, special pickups of bagged leaves will occur for four weeks in the spring and four weeks in the fall. A total of 12 bags may be placed curbside during those weeks and must weigh less than 35 pounds.

Once Republic Services has finalized its routes, a copy of the pickup calendar will be available on the City’s web site. The informative brochure is currently available for review at www.cityofrockport.com.

For additional information, please call Utility Billing at (361) 729-2213, ext. 234 during normal business hours.

I don't think any of the organizations were complaining about the $1. More about the execution. If the group charges $10 admission they now need a lot of change for $11 payments. Also how to count the admissions as they don't use tickets. Everyone was interested in working together to figure it out.
