Pet Adoption | R/F Humane Society: Ruby? What is a Ruby?

ADOPTED!!!

What is a Ruby you ask? Well, if you’re one of those “techno geeks” you might answer that Ruby is a general purpose computer language, commonly used in Rails applications. Designed & developed in the mid-1990 by Yukihiro “Matz” Matsumoto in Japan.

Now, if you’re more of an Earth person, you might answer this question with: A ruby is a pink to blood-red colored gemstone. One of the traditional cardinal gems, together with amethyst, sapphire, emerald and diamond. The gem can be found in mines in Myanmar, Thailand, Columbia as well as a few US states like Montana & Wyoming.

Those of you who are Judy Garland fans will surely respond with a description of those sparkly pumps that she wore in that timeless movie The Wizard of Oz. You trivia fanatics know that there were multiple pair made in 2 different sizes to accommodate Judy’s swelling feet and each shoes had approximately 2,300 ruby red sequins!

However, if you ask a shelter staff member or volunteer, you’ll get some very different answers. One might say “a survivor” as she had Parvo as a puppy and is now strong & healthy. Another will say “Happy!”, this little red dog is always wagging and grinning, especially when she’s awake. Her kennel workers may tell you “sweet”, a temperament that’s sure to please any pallet. And how about “energetic”, as in she’s still a puppy and full of the exuberance for life that just wiggles right out of her little butt.

Whatever you may define Ruby as; this 7 month old Terrier mix is sure to put a smile on your face, warmth in your heart and pep in your step!
