Pet Adoption | R/F Humane Society: Sweet or Spicy, You'll Love Ginger!

Are you ready to have your mouth water? Your appetite stimulated? Your senses overloaded? Then you are ready to meet the sweet and spicy Miss Ginger Spice.

This petite orange tabby girl is about 3 years old, less than 7 pounds and has personality plus! Ginger starts off introductions like the spice she’s named after, especially when mixed into that delicious blend Garahm Masala, a little hot and spicy. However, it doesn’t take long before she’s at the other end of the spectrum, mixed with honey and all sweet and mild like ginger wine. And that purr – you’ve not heard a more sweet-sounding (and loud!) purr on any kitty.

As many of you may know, the spice ginger comes from the rhizome of an herbaceous perennial which grows quite well here in our tropical climate. The beautiful clusters yellow flowers make it a favorite for landscaping aesthetics. The culinary uses for this spice are boundless, including everything from being pickled in sherry to dried and ground for seasoning meats or vegetables.

Ginger Spice Kitty is spayed, UTD on all her vaccines and is ready to add some spice to your life and home. All that and her adoption fee is just $10 for the month of July!

And speaking of July, Ginger would like to leave you with a wonderful recipe to help you stay cool while you think about adding her to your family.

Sambaram (Spiced Buttermilk): Blend together 2 cups plain yogurt with 1 cup water. Finely chop 1 Green Chili, a small sprig of Curry leaves (1/4 tsp curry powder works if you can’t find fresh curry) and enough fresh ginger to fill ½ tsp plus a pinch of salt and 2-3 ice cubes. Blend until smooth. Chill in refrigerator 10-15 minutes, then pour over ice and enjoy. Tell your guests that Ginger made it!
