UPDATE FROM THE ARANSAS COUNTY NAVIGATION DISTRICT, Keith Barrett, Harbor Master, Aransas County Navigation District

The main office for the Aransas County Navigation District was completely wiped out by Hurricane Harvey, making communications a challenge. We are setting up a temporary office at the maintenance shop in Fulton and working on getting phones and internet. Some of the aftermath and current restoration efforts are highlighted below.
  • Multiple vessels sunk in all 3 harbors.
  • Electrical power was down but is being restored. Our large power distribution panels were damaged or completely destroyed.
  • Water is also being restored. some is serviceable in Rockport and Fulton, but leaks are still being fixed.
  • Public restrooms will be put back on line as water and power is restored - if the structure is sound.
  • Demolition of structures that were severely damaged is taking place .
  • Debris clean up is taking place at the beach. A lot of construction material and parts of houses are being washed ashore from Little Bay and Aransas Bay.
  • Pavilions were severely damaged. Insurance adjustors and engineers are looking at structures.
  • All bait stands are damaged and some are total losses.
  • There was damage to Legget channel jetties
