The City of Rockport’s Building and Development Department, in conjunction with the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS), will hold an educational workshop on Tuesday, December 5 from 7:30 am – 9:00 am at the Rockport Service Center, located at 2751 Hwy 35 Bypass. The event is open to homeowners, contractors, building and code officials, and other interested parties.

Created by IBHS, FORTIFIED Home™ is a set of engineering and building standards designed to help improve resiliency and strengthen new and existing homes through system-specific building upgrades to minimum building code requirements that will reduce damage from specific natural hazards, including hurricanes, high winds, and hail. The FORTIFIED Home program goes beyond disaster preparedness and has three levels of designation—Bronze, Silver and Gold—that build upon each other. The three levels make FORTIFIED Home™ affordable at any price point, allowing homeowners to choose a desired level of protection that best suits their budgets and resiliency goals.

There is no cost for the program. However, interested parties are asked to RSVP to mtavarez@ibhs.org to assure there’s enough food for all attendees.
