Rockport Center for the Arts | "A Message of Gratitude and Hope from Luis Purón, Executive Director"

As we close-in on the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, with the feel of Fall in the air; I am reminded of the many people that for over 50 years have provided me with inspiration, the courage to forge forward, that helped lead the way, and opened-up a closing door.

During the past three months, we have received hundreds of calls, emails, notes, cards, gifts, donations, contributions raised in fundraisers held from the West to the East Coast-organized by old friends and new ones, and thousands of social media posts. I have read every single message and answered every call. I would personally like to express my sincere gratitude to every single person for the heartfelt support we are so fortunate to receive. This generosity has had a profound effect on the continuation and strengthening of our mission.

On December 2, Rockport Center for the Arts will reopen its doors, in the heart of downtown, in property we purchased for expansion. Nothing has changed, except our space is smaller. Our programs, events, and exhibits will continue in 2018. Our reopening announcement received a very strong response. On Sunday, November 19, over 100 member artists visited our new facility at 106 S Austin St to drop off art for Currents 2017: The All Members Show. The magic and the power of art is alive and well in Rockport.

The success of the Birds in Art exhibition, held at the Art Museum of South Texas, is another strong sign that the future for the arts, across the Coastal Bend, is bright. We are enjoying the privilege of more support, more memberships, more donors, and more collaborators than ever.

I want to transmit the feeling of hope I have for Rockport to you. Please join us Saturday, December 2 at 5 pm, for the much anticipated return of Rockport Center for the Arts.

Until then, I wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving in company of your loved ones.

Luis Purón
Executive Director
