Shared | "Welcome Home!" by Pam & Joe Wiltsey

We have a home in Fulton Texas, we are "Winter Texans." We watched Harvey coming and going from our safe home in Crosslake, Minnesota. We were very concerned about our neighbors on our block and watched all reports coming from Rockport/Fulton TX during that horrific August weekend. Our neighbors let us know that they were leaving the area. We were relieved that they were safe and watched the news as Harvey progressed. Knowing that our friends were safe we still were concerned with the rest of our neighbors that we don't know very well. It was still at least a week before any of our friends knew if our homes were actually there. We all were lucky and our homes were intact. Our neighbors, when it was clear came back everyday and worked until they had to leave in time to comply with the curfew.

My husband had major surgery mid June for a severe injury to his knee. Therefore, we could not come down right away. Our neighbors being true Texans, not only cleaned up their yard but ours as well! We are here and have been cleaning up trees and landscape since we got here and our friends have been right by our side helping us. There are no words to express our gratitude! Their response was "if it had been you, you would have done the same." This is why we live here; we feel at home and know that someone always has our backs here in Texas. We have driven around the area and we cannot believe the destruction and the clean up that is still going on and will go on for a very long time.

Tonight I was walking our dog and our neighbor who actually stayed during Harvey and sustained a lot of damage to their home; waved and said "Welcome. Home!" As I waved to them and said "Thank you" my heart was full and was felt so grateful to live here and have such wonderful neighbors and friends here in Fulton Texas. They have taught me faith in God that he is watching over all of us, especially this wonderful community of Rockport and Fulton TX!

This will be a truly blessed Christmas season and we pray that all will find the strength to stay strong and proud, as only Texans can do.

Merry Christmas,
Pam & Joe Wiltsey
