Roving Reporter | "Rockport Water Tower Comes Down" by Jeanette Larson, Photos/Video by Marc Peña

Long before Hurricane Harvey hit Rockport, the city had planned to take down an outdated water tower along FM 3036 near Business 35. On December 19th, the tower was finally demolished. Preparation took about twenty minutes and entailed cutting into the tank's metal legs. Now that the tower is down, crews will cut it up to haul away.  The city has six other water storage towers so there won't be any decrease in water service. The towers hold water to provide water pressure. Put into service in 1969, bystanders watched as the tower came down and local Marc Peña filmed a few moments of the excitement.
