RCA | February Classes & Workshops

An Introduction to
Digital Photography
with Stephen Fisher
This 4 week course is the first in a series of classes designed to explore the fascinating medium of digital photography. We’ll start at a fairly basic level discussing;
  • The components of a digital camera system. This will include everything from cell phone cameras to moving into high-end digital single lens reflex (DSLR) systems.

  • Composition and how it takes a photograph from good to great.

  • How to get your photographs off of your camera to share with family and others on social media.

  • Taking your photographs to the next level with post-processing.

Initially we’ll be taking photographs with our cell phones. The students will email or text their photographs to me and we’ll do some GENTLE critiquing together in class. I’ve found this a good way to learn from each other’s work.

This initial course is perfect for both beginners with only a cell phone camera and those who already have more advanced cameras… but maybe don’t really understand everything yet. Subsequent courses will address some more advanced digital photography topics and include field trips around Rockport.

Bring a cell phone and any other camera gear you might own. Please bring the owners manual for your camera if possible. A notebook would be handy.

Juicy Oil Painting
Using a 4-Color Palette
with Carol Frappier
What is Juicy Painting? Luscious, luxuriant brushwork, buttery, creamy paint, compelling, complex color…all this can be achieved with the right combination of painting support, medium and brushes and a direct expressive painting technique.

Which four colors will define YOUR painting personality? We will explore colors in depth, mixing and creating color charts to find the perfect combination of colors for you. We will then explore using your unique palette to explore still life, land/sea scape and abstract painting. This is a perfect class for painters of all levels.

MATERIALS: The first class will include an in depth discussion of materials. Bring what oil painting supplies you already have to the first class. Do not buy anything yet. We will evaluate what you need and what I recommend. There will be some supplies available for use for the first class. There will be an opportunity to place a group order for supplies at the end of class if necessary.

Responding to Nature:
Plein Air Oil Painting Workshop
with Susie Baker
Signature Member of
Oil Painters of America
The workshop will kick off with a lecture and demo. Students receive instruction on principles of painting ranging from drawing, color, value, composition, color theory and so much more. Every day, you will apply what is being taught by getting outside and painting, observing and recording nature as it changes. Suzie will demo on location and offer one-on-one instruction in the field at every student’s easel.

Suzie’s goal is to help each student identify their level of mastery and provide strategies for personal progression through group instruction, example, and individual interaction. Her humorous, informative manner makes tackling this multi-faceted challenge a fun and rewarding experience.

“Not only is Suzie an accomplished Plein Air painter, AND portrait artist, but she is one of the nicest people you’ll meet. When having a conversation with her, you get the feeling that she’s really listening. She’ll offer you good and constructive advice, and throw in a couple of favors as well! In the short time that I’ve known her, she’s bent over backward for me. She’s a kind, “giving”, artist.”
-Marjorie Hicks
