Rockport Center for the Arts Announces Search for Director of Development and Membership

Rockport Center for the Arts, a vibrant and prestigious multi-disciplinary arts organization celebrates 49 years of operation in 2018. With over 700 members, the organization has relocated its operation from Aransas Bay to downtown Rockport, Texas due to Hurricane Harvey. The organizations seeks a creative, energetic, inspired, tactful, well-rounded, personable, efficient and critical thinker who recognizes and is able to relate to guests, visitors, members and patrons how the mission is beneficial to them and is able to invite them to participate monetarily to support the organization.

Position Requirements:

A challenging yet rewarding opportunity awaits the right individual who has earned a minimum of a Bachelor degree from an accredited university, in addition to 2-5 years nonprofit development preferably in the arts, with grant writing, corporate and individual donor and relationship cultivation and fundraising experience, preferably with major gifts. This position requires excellent oral and written communications, including relationship management and individual/group presentation skills. Customer service orientation a plus with an ability to identify and interact with individuals for major gifts and work collaboratively with very diverse constituents from a variety of locations across the State of Texas. A proactive planner with a positive and entrepreneurial mindset, who is able to multi-task, work well with deadlines, and able to follow through on tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to work effectively and professionally in a creative office setting. A team player who is able to work independently and in teams to achieve the organization’s mission and goals. Able to understand all components of a diversified non-profit funding base, including working with event fundraising chairs in April, July and November to energize donors, the community and the membership constituents. A savvy social media user. Knowledge of social fundraising tactics, technology and tools. Good website editing skills. Knowledge of donor database programs. Ability to work evenings and weekends and attend events. Must be able to lift and handle items that weigh up to 40 lbs.

Other Important Qualities:
Fosters a culture of philanthropy within the organization. Assures that the organization’s corporate culture, systems and procedures support fund development and vice versa. Leads staff and volunteers to institutionalize philanthropy and fund development within the organization. Plans, coordinates and assures implementation of strategies to develop donors and contributions to support the organization. Assures development and maintenance of appropriate systems to fund development including but not limited to volunteer and donor management, research, gift processing and recognition. Maintains accountability and compliance standards for donors and funding sources.

Essential Duties of the Position:

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

  • FUNDRAISING 
  • MEMBERSHIP AND DONOR INFORMATION 
  • MAJOR GIFTS/DONOR SUPPORT 
  • CAPITAL CAMPAIGN FOR A NEW FACILITY 
  • EVENTS 
  • COMMUNICATION 

Performance expectations:

As a member of the team, this is a fast-paced position that helps set the direction and ensures the financial health of the institution. The individual is expected to be a competent fundraiser, membership and relationship manager and an organizational development specialist. The individual is expected to translate broad goals into achievable steps. Help set and manage appropriate expectations. Handle detailed, complex concepts and problems and make rapid decisions regarding management and development issues. Plan and implement. Establish strong and appropriate relationships with Executive Director, staff, board, members, volunteers, donors and the community. Develop smooth and constructive relationships with people from all segments of the community including government.

The individual is expected to: Demonstrate initiative. Adheres to the highest ethical standards in management, governance, and fund development. Conveys a professional and positive image and attitude regarding the organization. Demonstrates a commitment to continued professional growth and development.

Compensation:

Competitive salary. Employee health insurance provided and covered at 100%. Employer will provide professional development opportunities and assistance towards obtaining baseline certification in fund raising, CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Professional).
