History Center of Aransas County | “Salute to Aransas County Military”

Patriotic soldiers and citizens of Aransas County have played important roles in national military conflicts. Salute to Aransas County Military honors local men and women, who have served our country and honors their contributions as the United States and Texas observes the 100th anniversary of America’s entry into the first World War, the War to end all Wars.

The exhibit will feature Aransas County’s role in war efforts through describing the Heldenfels Shipyard presence during World War I, the construction of sub-chasers during World War II, the mission of the Rockport Air Force Station, as well as honoring veterans and veteran organizations.

Special programs are scheduled to accompany the exhibit including Mr. Joe Riekers sharing The History of the Texas Guard on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 2 PM and Mr. Howard Jones discussing the role of War Horses onSunday, May 4 at 2 PM.

The opening of Salute to Aransas County Military will be held on Saturday, April 7, at 10:00 and will feature RFHS Students participating in the RFHS NROTC Color Guard, Band, Choir, Theatre and Art. The Plant Exchange is also scheduled for that date.

The History Center for Aransas County is located at 801 E. Cedar Street in Rockport and is open Saturdays from 10 am-4 pm and Sundays from 1-4 pm. The History Center offers programs and exhibits free to the public and is a venue of Aransas Pathways.
