Bechtel partnership to give Rockport Center for the Arts a new lease on life

Bechtel and Rockport Center for the Arts will launch a community-based project to develop the region’s new cultural hub in time for local students to access the free summer art camp, ArtSpace.

Rockport Center for the Arts’ building was destroyed by hurricane Harvey on August 25, 2017. The Art Center relocated to a new location in Downtown Rockport. The facility, one of the few buildings to survive the hurricane, requires a full makeover before it can be used by the students.

Bechtel, Rockport and community volunteers will launch the “Engineering Rockport” project where the volunteers will put their design and construction skills to use in the re-development of the building to ensure it meets all the current safety and structural requirements as well as provide a creative environment for the students.

Representatives from Bechtel and Rockport Center for the Arts will be available for interview at the official launch.
