End of an Era, The Beginning of a New One -- Aerial Shots of the RCA Demolition (Re: Rockport Center for the Arts' Building to be Razed This Week)

Press Release in Re:

As was announced in March, Rockport Center for the Arts’ former home, located at 902 Navigation Circle, will be razed starting May 7 and 8, 2018 due to damages resulting from Hurricane Harvey.

The Art Center is receiving in-kind services to complete this demolition project from CORE Projects Group; a Rockport and San Antonio based company that specializes in domestic, industrial and oilfield demolition, remediation and construction. CORE Projects Group is mobilizing equipment to the demolition site on Monday, May 7. The bulk of the demolition work will occur on Tuesday, May 8, 2018

In 1983, thanks to a generous gift from the O’Connor family, the Rockport Art Association moved the Bruhl~O’Connor home (1890) to Navigation Circle, between Aransas Bay and Rockport Harbor. The blue Victorian building served as a home for the arts until August 25, 2017.

Ninety-nine days after the storm, the Art Center relocated its operations to 106 S. Austin St. on property the organization purchased in July 2016 for a planned expansion. The property is located in downtown Rockport. Since the hurricane event, Art Center leadership has accelerated its new facility project to deliver a significant home for the arts in Rockport.

The land acquisition, coupled with a half-a-million dollar economic development grant from the Rebuild Texas Fund, and another half-a-million dollar grant from the Still Water Foundation has placed the new facility project on stronger footing.
