The Rockport Art Festival is one of the largest and most celebrated art festivals in the United States. Since 1969, more than 120 artists from all over the country have traveled to Rockport, Texas to participate in the Festival. Attended by 10,000 people, the festival is an economic boon for Rockport and Fulton. The Rockport Art Festival has been the best place to be for the July 4th holiday. Hosted by Rockport Center for the Arts, the event is located on the fairgrounds adjacent to Rockport Beach Park and Aransas Bay. This year more than 120 artists from Texas and all around the United States were juried and selected into the Festival to showcase their work. The quality of artists in a variety of mediums, such as painting, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, glasswork, metal sculptures, furniture, and more has become synonymous with the high-quality festival, one of the most prestigious and entertaining art shows in the country. This year, numerous regional, state-wide, nationally-renowned and award-winning artists will be participating once again. Items of all types and price points are available for sale.

“We are thrilled to bring the Art Festival back to the thousands of fans from across the great State of Texas that visit every year. This year the Festival will be more special than ever as Rockport gets back on its feet in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. We want Texans to come to the coast and find themselves in Rockport for the 4th of July festivities,” says Festival Chair, Karen Ernst.

In addition to a wide variety of food and drink, live musical entertainment will be provided by a variety of artists inside a big-top air-conditioned tent with a foot print of 13,000 square feet. A children’s activity tent offer youngsters the opportunity to create some of their own art work and listen to live entertainment. The Festival Store offers merchandise inventory for the entire family.

Numerous art galleries will be open during the holiday weekend, including the gallery at Rockport Center for the Arts’ new location in downtown Rockport and the Estelle Stair Gallery, three blocks away, which the Art Center has leased to host its annual Poster Artist exhibit. Taking Flight, the show at Estelle Stair Gallery features artist Debbie Stevens who created the 49th Annual Rockport Art Festival collectible poster. The image of the poster will be revealed to the public at the opening of her show on June 16. The show will continue through Saturday, July 28, 2018.

About the Rockport Center for the Arts …

Rockport Center for the Arts, currently in its 49th year of operation, the Art Center was located in the blue Victorian house at Rockport Harbor near Rockport Beach. On August 25 and 26, 2017 the facility suffered catastrophic damage due to Hurricane Harvey’s direct impact on Rockport. A building demolition was completed on May 22, 2018. A world-class sculpture garden featuring works by Kent Ullberg, James Surls and the late Jesús Moroles have accentuated the Art Center since 2000, making it one of the most prestigious showcases for fine art in South Texas. Some of the sculptures sustained damages but conservation is underway to protect Rockport’s art legacy. Patrons can still visit the Sculpture Garden which is in the process of being restored for the enjoyment of residents and visitors. Inspiring exhibitions, an annual Artist-in-Residence program and traveling exhibits are part of the repertoire the community and its visitors have come to expect. The many activities of the Art Center draw fifty-thousand visitors per year. This coming spring, the Rockport Studio Tour will allows visitors to see some of the most unique artist studios in Rockport’s storied art colony, learn about medium, technique and acquire unique pieces of art. In the summer, the Rockport Art Festival is the place to be July 4th weekend. More than 10,000 people attend each year to enjoy music, food and artwork from 120 of the best artists from around the country. Workshops, classes and mentoring from established local artists are part of a well-crafted art education program. For decades children have enjoyed free, high caliber art instruction year-round through ArtSpace and Free Family Saturdays. Since hurricane Harvey none of the programs or events at the Art Center were canceled.
