Quick Poll Results

Dear Friends, Over the last few weeks, I have been reading through the feedback from the Quick Poll. Thank you, truly, to those of you who took the time to send me your thoughts. We had over 300 responses. I read every single entry, and am making adjustments per your requests, although most people said not to change anything, which is always nice to hear. :) "If it ain't broke..." right, as many of you said.

Some of the "favorite things" people mentioned were: the timeliness of our posts when something important happens (including our posts during and right after the hurricane), the variety and 'warmth' of the content, the recipes, and specifically how local the content is.

So here's what else I learned...

A lot of people still don't know that the WWN is a community newsletter that funnels the voices of community members like you. The WWN has been that way since its inception in 2005, and the launch of our website in 2011. We don't have ANY paid reporters, at all...so if you'd like something shared, please submit it through our submit page, or simply upload a photo and caption here....exactly how you'd like it to appear.

A submission doesn't have to be anything complex; it could be as simple as a photo of a group of friends enjoying a margarita. Suffice it to say, we need more content from readers like you if the WWN is going to continue, so please consider sharing photos and information with your neighbors through the WWN. Trust me when I say people will see it. Just a reminder: if you are working with a non-profit, it is always free to share a "roving reporter" post about what your organization did after it happens. It is an excellent, cost-effective PR channel. If you need help, please ask.

Many of you commented on how easy our website is to navigate, and for that I'm so glad. I have worked hard over the last few years to rearrange things to be straight forward and accessible, especially on mobile devices. Because I work within a cost-effective template to keep overhead down, that's not always easy to do. The icon I asked about in the Quick Poll, with the three lines, is called a "hamburger" icon. When you see it, typically when browsing from a mobile device, click it for a menu full of options and sections. P.S. That's true on the WWN, but also on all sites now, even Facebook. I could see that if you didn't know what this icon did, that navigation would be a struggle...so click it, you'll find more!

If you were one of the folks who said you hadn't used our share icons to share a post, I encourage you to do so. Not only does it support us as an organization, it gives hard-working businesses and individuals who are sharing information through the WWN, more traffic, eyes, and yes, business. It helps them. Sharing is caring! Share icons are peppered throughout our newsletter and website, so please look for them and click them.

Several people had comments about our layout. Our newsletter layout is always evolving to meet the needs of our readers, yes...but also to please the technology within we share information--like a plethora of finicky email inboxes. Teasing posts with a "read more" allows us to include long text with multiple images, that we couldn't otherwise include due to size constraints of email inboxes. I'm sensitive to the annoyance of toggling between two tabs, but it's a standard practice for our type of blog/newsletter. When it's possible, I will try and include more of the text in the actual email.

Again, I really appreciate those of you who took the time to share your feedback with me. If you have questions or additional, specific suggestions (specific is really key), please feel free to contact me directly.

Thank you for reading and supporting the WWN! - Alicia
