Hurricane Harvey Recovery Efforts

We continue to meet with representatives of FEMA, the Texas GLO, Rebuild Texas organization, and other foundations and interested parties in identifying both losses and opportunities in need of government financing.  For those who are unaware, the former City Hall building on Market Street will be torn down.  The City and County are working on a “Downtown Anchor” project that would, essentially, have a government plaza with separate offices for the two entities.  A news release announcing the project was distributed last month and is available for viewing on the City’s web site at

Community Development Block Grant Public Hearing

The City will hold a public hearing at 5:05 p.m. on Monday at the Rockport Service Center regarding submission of one or more applications to the CDBG Program. Citizens are encouraged to attend to discuss the citizen participation plan, local housing and community development needs, available funding, eligible activities, past use of funds, and development of CDBG applications. Written comments may also be submitted to the mayor by mailing to 2751 SH 35 N Bypass, Rockport 78382.

Yard Debris Pickup by Republic

Republic Services, the sanitation service for Rockport residents, will pick up bagged yard debris on Wednesdays through the month of November.  The service begins on November 7.  Residents may put out up to 12 waste bags no greater than 35 gallons.  Regular weekly trash and bi-weekly recyclables will continue on schedule.

Comprehensive Plan Update Committee

This appointed, citizen advisory committee has met twice in conjunction with the Texas Target Communities Program, Texas Rural Leadership Program and Texas Sea Grant to lay the foundation of a program that will guide our City’s future growth and development.  The next meeting – Thursday, November 15 at 6 pm – will be a special workshop with members of these organizations and graduate students from Texas A&M University.  This special event is open to the public for participation or viewing the process.  Please check our web site for additional information and location as we get closer to the date.

Free Trees for Aransas County Residents -

Friday, November 9 from 2 – 6 pm at the Festival Grounds, across from the beach entrance.  Sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, Texas A&M Forest Service and the City’s Parks Department.  Offerings include a variety of live oaks, Mexican sycamores, bald cypress, palms and other trees suitable for our zone.

Veterans Day –

City offices will be closed on November 12.  There will be a community-wide event on Monday, November 12 at 11 am at Veterans Park to honor those who have served our country.

Tropical Christmas

SAVE THE DATE – DECEMBER 1.  It’s going to be bigger and better than ever thanks to Reliant Energy, our corporate sponsor, who will help us “light up Rockport”.  This year’s event will start at noon and end with a live concert following the fireworks display.  Live entertainment includes The Groove, Scott Taylor Band and Cast in Bronze, among others.  Lots of vendors and food trucks, children’s entertainment and more.  Did I mention snow?!?!?! There are plenty of opportunities for involvement from volunteering to tree decorating to hosting a booth or participating in the illuminated night parade.  For more information, visit the City’s web site or contact the Parks Department at 361-727-2158.
