2019 - The End of an Era

Dear Friends,

Last week we sent out the last WWN Newsletter. Stopping the newsletter was a hard decision, but sometimes the planets shift and you just know, well, it’s time. For now, I will be leaving the WWN website and Facebook page live, as a resource, sharing various posts now and again.

Over the last eight years the WWN has, at various times, consumed my every thought. “How can I make it better while staying within our tiny budget?” “How can I sell more ads to cover costs?” “How can I get someone to take pictures at various events?” “How can I travel when I have to send out the newsletter—will there be wifi?”

Although it was a struggle at times, it was also very rewarding. Ultimately, the WWN provided me so many things that few saw: it gave me a job when I was unemployed...it gave me experience when I had little...it gave me self-worth when I was running low...and it provided me choices when I was in limbo.

In addition to our readers, I want to especially thank the folks who consistently supported us over these many years—who bought listings and ads, who sponsored our special events, who shared pictures, and wrote articles that so many of us enjoyed. We could not have existed without your contributions. Thank you for your wonderful support.

Of all the things that the WWN provided the Rockport-Fulton community, I am most proud of a few: the numerous loving homes we helped find for stray animals, the timely information we provided to local residents during and after Hurricane Harvey, sharing the miracle of the hummingbird migration with people all over the world through our “Bird Cam,” and the level of exposure our listings provided to local businesses and charitable organizations.

One thing has become abundantly clear to me: You can take the girl out of Rockport, but you can’t take Rockport out of the girl. May the warmth of the sun rising over the bay always guide your path.

With all my Rockport love,
